Description
Through the Tides talks about important stuff like the Philippines’ slow justice system, class divide, and historical revisionism while walking the tightrope between artistic poetry and day-to-day language; enduring a hard time, holding until circumstances improve, something we are all experiencing collectively as Filipinos.
RETRIBUTOR - talks about a vengeful entity, one that takes over when the justice system is too slow to provide protection for its people, that the people themselves will take the matter into their own hands, thus comes the line “when system keeps failing the man, the gavel is silenced by the axeman”
CLASS WAR - it’s a natural progression in society that one day the masses, the 99%, will take over the ruling class. Everyone is fed up. The ruling class lobbying lawmakers to make self-serving laws, no one held accountable in diverting public funds to personal bank accounts. The time is ripe – class war is coming.
PRAXIS - yes theory is important, but practice materialises what’s written to what’s real. In simple terms, learn to walk the talk, because at the end of the day, those above us will only see us as a statistic if we do not walk the talk.
TEST OF TIME - you shouldn’t stop teaching about history just because it’s ugly. Teach it so it doesn’t repeat itself, specially to those who blindly idolize politicians coming from families who have a hand in how history is shaped. Manipulating history is a fascist tool to control the masses. As someone who’s awake, our duty is to defeat something that cannot die – an idea.
INSIDE OUT - a hot take, but you can’t change a person, it’s always up to them to make the right choices for themselves. Learn to respect a person’s autonomy, but as a friend, all we can do is be there for them when they need us.
SLICE THROUGH - our message since day one. Sure, you’re straight edge. What about it? Treat straightedge as a tool rather than a badge. Yes you can be so straight edge, but what’s next? Teach history, look out for one another. Create something with it!
